Northern Lights Layout

Good morning.

Today's share is a layout.

The photos in this layout were taken on North Terrace in Adelaide in February 2010.
Yeah I know, long time to get around to it.

Each year they project images onto the buildings along North Terrace and this is what we can see. The images change constantly and it is quite fascinating.

I have created a video showing how this layout was put together.

As there are three 6" x 4" photos on the page there is not much room for anything else so I have gone with a layout that is quite simple and has no embellishments at all. I did have more photos and contemplated using a pocket or something similar to hold the others but decided that these three photos showed the event perfectly.

All of the patterned papers have been matted on Kazazz - Apricot cardstock so that there is a 1/16" border all around.
The background orangey lightly patterned paper came from a paper pad that I tore apart some time ago and I did not keep the cover so I cannot tell you what brand it is. I trimmed it down to 11.5" x 11.5" to sit on the 12" x 12" plain cardstock

The next layer is from 7 Dots Studio's Domestic Goddess range - 12th Teacup and has been cut to 8.75" x 9.5".

The purple layer is from Prima Marketing and is from the Indeed Collection - Fairy Garden. This is from 2009 according to the branding strip. This is cut to 10.5" x 6.5".

The strip at the bottom is another Prima Marketing paper (2013) Sunrise-Sunset Collection - Corona and is 1.5" x 12".

I have used an emery board to file around the edge of each of the photos before attaching them to the Apricot photo mats.

The title is cut from some black cardstock using my Scan N Cut and has a coat of Glossy Accents applied to give it a nice shiny finish.

As I said this is a very simple layout with no added embellishments, but it looks full and in my opinion does not need anything extra.

This layout was made using only papers from my stash and is a very small step towards using up my abundance of supplies.

Thank you for spending some of your day here with me today.

Why not pop over to my YouTube channel and check out the video, it is not very long.

Till next time

Imagine Art Journal Page

Good morning.

Today I am talking about an art journal page I have created.

This is the first page in my disc bound notebook. I purchased a Happy Planner Notebook to use for an art journal. I was not sure about the thickness of the pages before I bought it so I was not surprised that I have to stick two pages together to make it sturdy enough for my liking. I did this with Gel Medium.

My plan is to leave the backs of the pages blank so I can write on there the products I have used. I have got plenty of pages that I do not know what I have used on them so if I want to reproduce the technique I don't know where to start.

You can watch the video here if you want to see how this page came together.

To start my page I covered the background with book paper using Atelier Heavy Gel Gloss. The text was very dark so I gave it two coats of Gesso. This actually turned out to be too many, I should have stuck with just the one coat, as when the Gesso was dry and the inks were applied on top of it the text was completely covered.

I used Distress Inks as the base colours for the background. The colours I used were Broken China, Twisted Citron, Peeled Paint, Mustard Seed and Scattered Straw. I applied the colour with a blending tool.

Using Dylusions Mini Stencil - Diamonds In The Rough I applied some Broken China and some Black Soot Distress Inks randomly through the stencil.

More dimension for the background was created by stamping. I used Kaisercraft's - Stains clear stamp and the Black Soot Distress Ink first and then the same stamp with my Encore Gold Ink

Next I used both Black Soot and Broken China Distress Inks, with a Deep Red stamp called Water Droplets Background, randomly on the background.

Now that my background is finished I gave it a coat of Boyle's Clear Matt Spray sealer. The Distress Inks re-activate when they get wet and I did not want them moving around  as I continued with the page.

For my focal points I used Kaisercraft's Child Play clear stamps. I cut the centre out of the largest circle stamp to make two stamps and with my Stazon Ink Jet Black I stamped the circles onto my page. I wanted it to look like some of the circle were behind others so I cut a mask so I could stamp on top of any circle and not have the overlap show.

The centres of the circles got two coats of Gesso so that the colour I applied to them would be true.

I used acrylic paints, Duncan Sunshine Yellow, Duncan Sunrise Orange and DecoArts Christmas Red to fill in the centres of the circles, blending them together as I went.

When the acrylic paint was dry I used my Fude Ball pen to doodle on the circles and doodle a border around the page. I thought the Fude Ball pen was waterproof (it says it is on the pen) but I found out it was not when I wiped over it with a baby wipe after it was dry and it smudged.

I wanted to add some white next so I used some Scribbles SC110 in White (this is similar to Stickles but from my ceramic days) to add dot and lines to the circles. I also used some watered down white acrylic paint in my Fine Line bottle to draw around the circles and around the page.

To finish the page off I used some Sizzix - Background Weave rub-ons on the background and a Kaisercraft SB522 Inspiration Rub-On which said Imagine for my title. The title does not stand out but it is there if you are looking for it.

Wow this is a very long post so if you have made it this far thank you for sticking with me.

The video is quite short, I try to keep them all under 15 mins, so why not pop over and check it out.

Thank you for spending some of your day here with me.

Till next week

Cards using Briarwood paper range

Good morning.

Glad you could join me here on my blog today.

Although I am trying to use up the huge amount of product I have in my stash, I bought a 6" x 6" paper pad and a pack of embellishments from The Reject Shop when I was in Burleigh Heads recently. The brand is The Craft Stall and the collection was Briarwood. I cannot remember what I paid for them but I think it was only about $2 or $3 each. Even if these three cards are the only ones I make from the pad I think I have got great value for money. There are still over 30 pages left in the pad and over a 130 embellishments left in the pack so there are a lot more cards to be made from these supplies.

These are the cards I have made

You can see the process video here.

I used a couple of sheets of white cardstock that was embossed with dots to make my 5.25" square card bases.

All of the flowers used here are from my stash and were NOT made especially for these cards.

The edges of all of the papers have been distressed and inked.

I chose six sheets of paper from the pad, 3 of them a fairly plain print and 3 with a heavier pattern. I cut the lighter patterned paper to 5" square and the other sheets to 4.75" square. The smaller pieces were then attached on top of the larger ones to use as the backgrounds.

Card No 1.

For the first card I selected another piece of patterned paper and trimmed it to 2.5" x 4.75". Using some craft foam I attached the paper towards the left hand side of the card on top of some white gauze poking out from it.

To decorate this card I used a strip of small white tulle flowers, an assortment of purchased flowers and leaves and a handmade flower that I had made some time ago. The hand made flower is made by cutting various decreasing sized circles, inking the edges, spraying them lightly with water and scrunching them up. Leave them to dry and then flatten them out slightly and layer them on top of each other, securing them in place with a brad.

I chose a small butterfly from the embellishment pack, trimmed the white edge off and attached it to the card. I also chose a sentiment from the pack and attached it to the card on top of the tulle flowers. A few dots of Crystal Scribbles (similar to Nuvo Glitter Drops) were added for a bit of bling.

To finish the card off I sprayed it with Tattered Angels Glimmermist in Gold. This gives the whole front of the card a very pretty golden shine.

Card No 2.

To create a horizontal panel for the second card I cut a 2" x 4.75" strip of patterned paper and attached a layer of lace to it. On top of this I attached a 0.75" x 4.75" strip of patterned paper.

I used my hot glue gun to attached this to the card holding a piece of gold speckled netting in place behind the panel. I have attached it about 2/3 ads of the way down the card.

On top of this panel I added a piece of resin and four purchased flowers. The origin and brand of the flowers is unknown because I take all of my flowers out of their packaging and store them in a large tub.

The sentiment is made using a clear sticker from 13@rts. I have attached the sticker to a piece of pink paper from the pad and then mounted on some white cardstock. This was attached to the card in the upper right hand area, using some foam squares.

Card No 3.

I have used some mixed media on this card. I applied some Matisse Impasto Medium, which dries clear, through a diamond stencil. While this was still wet I added some 13@rts Old Gold XS Microspheres and set this aside to dry.

I made a panel to run vertically on my card using bits and pieces from my embellishment box. This is where I put things that I make for a project and then don't end up using. I gathered up a piece of white cardstock that had been die cut using Tim Holts Ornate die, a piece of grey spot paper that had been punched using a Martha Stewart punch and an off cut from the background papers from the 6" x 6" paper pad I am using. These were layered on top of each other then attached to the middle of the card front using my hot glue gun. I also attached a strip of lace to the left hand side of this panel.

Many years ago (about 10 I think) I bought a pad by K&Company called Cardstock Flowers - Paper Posies. There are 24 pages of pre-cut flowers and foliage that you can layer to create flowers. The two flowers on this card we're assembled from this pad. I added two smaller flowers to complete the flower cluster

I have used a larger butterfly from the embellishment pack on the card, once again cutting off the white border.

The greeting is another sticker from the 13@rts sticker sheet that I attached to a piece of the pink paper from the pad and attached it to the card using foam squares. Unfortunately I took the photo before I attached the sentiment and did not realise it until much later. The sentiment is attached in the bottom left area of the card and says Thinking of You.

A light coat of the Tattered Angels Glimmermist in gold finished this last card for today.

A quick look at all three cards again

Watervale Layout

Good morning

Todays layout is a travel related layout. Ray and I do housesitting as a sort of hobby/holiday thing.

This layout showcases one of those housesits. We did this housesit in April 2016 so you can see how long it has taken me to get around to scrapping it.

I had 13 photos that I wanted to use so I reduced 12 of the photos down to 4" x 3" and left one at 6" x 4"

To fit them all on one page I created a booklet to attach to the page and then I altered the page protector in my album so that the booklet could be opened without having to take the page out of the protector.

I created a video showing the process, you can see the video here on my YouTube channel.

This photo shows the booklet open

All of the papers on this layout are from very old collections that I have had for some years. I am using them as part of my project to reduce my stash
All of the papers have been distressed using my Prima Distress tool and Kaisercraft's black ink.

I have used Making Memories Toil & Trouble paper for the background of the layout.

I tore along the top edge of the paper and then made it back up to 12" x 12" using 7 Dots Studio Domestic Goddess - Women's Talk. This paper was also used to cover the folio I created to house the bulk of the photos.

To make the folio I cut a piece of kraft cardstock to 8.75" x 10" and another that was 9.25" x 10". I scored the larger piece at 1/2" on the 9.25" side and folded this over to create a flap. Using double sided tape and glue I joined the two pieces, with the flap being at the back of the folio.

All of the photos for the inside of the folio were reduced to 4" x 3" in size and then matted on black cardstock that measured 4 1/8" x 3 1/8" giving them a nice fine 1/16" border that separates them from the background. The photos were then attached evenly to the inside of the folio.

Once the patterned paper was attached to the front of the folio, the folio was attached to the background cardstock approximately 3/4" from both the bottom and left hand edges

To decorate the front of the folio I cut a piece from Prima Marketing's Sunrise-Sunset Collection - White Hot that measured 7.75" x 8".

Using Kaisercraft's Grunge stencil I applied Mont Marte Modelling paste randomly on the 7.75" x 8" patterned paper. I let this dry and then sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Gold and Tattered Angels Chalkboard spray in Valencia letting the colour run and pool on the paper. Using Tattered Angels Glimmermist in Black Magic I added some splatters. I was hoping that this would make the Modelling Paste stand out a little more but it didn't. I probably should have sprayed first and then applied the modelling paste. Once this was dry I attached it to the layout at the top of the folio on an angle so the top left corner was approximately 3/4" from the left hand edge of the folio and the bottom left corner was on the left hand edge of the folio.

I used a strip of the Domestic Goddess paper that is 1.75" wide to add a horizontal element to the layout. I wanted it to go across the complete page but because the folio has to open to be able to see the photos I had to cut the strip where is crossed the folio cover.

I glued some craft foam to the back of the larger photo before attaching it to the front of the folio.

For the title I used Kaisercrft chipboard letters - CB108 Alpha #2. I gave them a coat of Gesso and then applied the same two sprays that I had used on the patterned paper earlier. I applied the colour with a brush in the hope of getting a deeper colour. once they were dry I took a text stamp and some black Stayzon ink and stamped on top of them.

I punched a tab using my McGill 2.25" tab punch and used the same stamp and ink on it. I also used some black alpha sticker to put "open" on the tab.

I attached the tab to the top page of the folio and the title to the bottom section of the folio.

I embellished the layout with collectables from Kaisercraft's Check In range.

I cut my page protector open and put a slit in it where the front page of the folio is to poke through, I put the page in place and then sealed up the protector. You can see how I did this in my video here.

Thank you for spending some of your day with me on my blog today. Hope you have time to check out the video
