August Cyber Crop at Mystical Scrapbooks

Good morning.

Today I am sharing a layout I have made for the August Cyber Crop over at Mystical Scrapbooks.

The challenge is to use at least 6 items of the same shape (can be assorted sizes) and some textiles on your layout.

I have started with plain white cardstock for the background. 

For texture I have added Glass Bead Gel through Kaisercraft's Leaves stencil. When this was dry I sprayed it with Tattered Angels Chalkboard spray in Teal High Heel and Artiste Spritzing Ink in Gold. I added water and encouraged the colours to run down the page.

While I was waiting for that to dry I cut Kookaburra (grey) cardstock to 3.25" squares and the blue side of FancyPants, Family & Co, Family Matters cardstock to 3.5" square. I inked the edges of each of the papers and layered them on top of each other and then attached the photos on top.

To create the other three squares I cut the some sizes in FancyPants, Family & Co, Our House (3.25") and the plaid side of the Family Matters (3.5") paper, inked the edges and layered them on top of each other.

Each of the three squares that did not have photos on them had a strip of white Cobweb ribbon attached down one side with a couple of layers of white Ric Rac, which was tied with a knot at the front, on top of the Cobweb ribbon

I used some black heat embossed chipboard letters to create my title and a couple of blue heat embossed arrow to finish embellishing one of the title square.

Another square was embellished with several chipboard stickers from the same paper range and the third square had a black heat embossed chipboard circle, a blue heat embossed butterfly and a couple of round embellishments from the chipboard sticker sheet.

To complete the layout two strips of a larger Ric Rac were added to the bottom section.

See the Good Art Journal page

 Hi there.

Today I am trying a new way of doing my Blog posts.

As you all know I make a video of all of my projects and post them to YouTube, so instead of going into detail here, about what I have done on my projects, I am going to put a link here to the project and you can pop over to YouTube and watch the video instead of me trying to explain in words what I have done.

I think it will be easier for you to follow the process if you can actually see it and maybe, encourage you to try these techniques and projects for yourself.

So this is my page for today and you can see the video here.

And a few closeups

The background has a lot of texture. I have used Gyprock tape, masking tape, stencil and texture paste.

The background colour is Colour Blast Colour Mica Powders. A set of four circle stamps, that came with a magazine, has then been stamped randomly onto the background with StazOn Jet Black ink.

To create my focal points I have used alcohol inks on glossy photo paper, stamped the toadstools onto that before fussy cutting them and attaching them to the page.

I have added Nuvo Glitter drops to the dots on the toadstools.

The quote is from the internet and printed on printer paper then coloured with some of the blue Mica powder.

The butterfly is die cut from paper from my scrap box using a Cheery Lyn die.

Three Cards using "Timeless" Paper Pad

Hello hello

Today's share is a set of three shabby chic cards

I bought a 6" patterned paper pad from K Mart by Anko called "Timeless". I have not used their papers before and thought I would try them out. I have to say the papers were fine to work with and very pretty. Some of them were foiled too.

I cut all of the card bases from A4 sized 270gsm smooth white cardstock. I have made one card that is 

5 1/4" square and for the other 2, I cut the A4 cardstock to 11 1/2" long and then cut it down the middle lengthways to make two top folding cards that are 5 3/4" x 4 1/8"

All of the patterned papers have had their edges inked and the square card and one of the others has had the patterned papers distressed.

I create several sheets of computer generated sentiments in various sizes and fonts and this is what I have used on all of these cards.

Let's start with the square card.

I have used 3 patterned papers on this card. The pink spot is 5 1/4" square, the foiled green paper is 5 1/4" x 3" and the floral paper is 5 1/4" x 1 1/4". As I said before the edges of these papers have been distressed and inked.

A piece of Finnabair lace was also cut to 5 1/4" and added to the layers, between the green and the floral papers.

Flowers from my stash were used to decorate the card. The pink flower is silk (I think it is Prima but not positive), the tiny roses are Kaisercraft's Mini Paper Blooms in Fairy Floss. I don't know what brand the fussy cut flowers are as I have not kept the packaging and the gold flower was made with my foiling kit and my Scan N Cut.

The sentiment was matted on some of the pink spot paper and attached to the card using foam tape.

Now to the second card. 

I have used two patterned papers on this card.

The white foiled paper is 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" and the floral paper is 3 5/8" x 5 1/4"

The white foiled banner is 1 1/4" x 3 1/2" and matted onto plain white cardstock and the floral banner is 3/4" x 2 3/4" and also matted onto white cardstock. The small banner is attached to the larger banner with double sided tape and the banner assembly is attached to the card using foam tape.

Aileens Original Tacky glue was used to attach the silk flower (another Prima one I think) on top of the banner assembly. I used the same glue to attach the crochet cotton, that had been twisted up to look like a bow, under the flower.

The sentiment is matted on two of the patterned papers and some white cardstock and attached to the card with foam tape.

And our last card for today.

I chose four papers from the pad for this card.

The foiled pink paper is 3 7/8" x 5 1/2", the dark floral is 3 3/8" x 5", the pink spot is 3 1/8" x 4 3/4" and the top floral is 2 1/2" x 4".

A piece of lace from the same Finnabair bundle was also added to the layers, it is 5 3/4" long, and is positioned between the bottom two layers.

I have added a piece of cheese cloth to the embellishment cluster on this card. Another of the foiled flowers I made on my ScanN Cut and a couple of flowers from my stash complete the embellishments on this card.

The sentiment has been matted on a piece of the spotty paper and attached to the card using foam tape.

August challenge over at Mystical Scrapbooks

Hi there friends

Today I am sharing a layout I have created for the August challenge over at Mystical Scrapbooks.

The video for this layout can be found here.

My challenge is to use a handmade textile embellishment on your layout. It can be any embellishment so long as it is hand made and made from textiles, ie flowers, banners, stars, hearts etc made from fabric, wool, lace, felt etc

Last month I shared a video showing how to make two styles of fabric flowers, you might find that helpful in the creation of your embellishment.

I have used three of the flowers I made in that video on this layout. 

The flower cluster also includes some paper flowers in a pale green

I have used modelling paste through a stencil (Kaisercraft Tribal Collage) and then applied Mustard Seed Distress Ink through a different stencil (Kaisercraft Floral) to the white cardstock base.

An assortment of stamps were also added to the background using Broken China Distress Ink and StazOn Jet Black Ink.

I have used Effie & Vonnie papers from the Love & Grace collection by Colourblast.

I also added some burlap ribbon  and some white tassel ribbon to the right hand edge of my photo.

Anniversary Card 2020

Good morning friends

In June it was my 47th wedding anniversary so I made a card for my husband. I would like to share that card with you now and explain how it was constructed.

I wanted to include a wedding photo in the card so I decided to make it a tri-fold card.

As is my usual practise all of the cardstock, patterned papers and embellishments have had their edges inked with black.

To make the card base I cut 3 pieces of white 300gsm cardstock

                No. 1. 1 @ 8 1/2" x 6"

                No. 2. 1 @ 1" x 6"

                No. 3. 1 @ 4" x 6"

I scored piece No. 1 at 4 1/4" to make a folded card that was 4 1/4" x 6". 

Piece No. 2 was folded at 1/2" so it was 1/2" x 6".

I used the 1" piece as a hinge to join the 4" wide piece to the folded card base thereby creating the tri fold.

A full panel heart die was used to cut the plain blue cardstock for the front of the card. Once this was cut I trimmed it down to the same size as the front of the card base (4 1/4" x 6") and used glue to attach it.

To create the large heart on the front of the card I cut Ultimate Crafts ULT57570 heart die from both black and white cardstock so I could use the black frame around the white centre. I used glue to attach these.

The greeting was printed from my computer, trimmed to size, matted on some of the blue cardstock and attached on top of the heart die-cut using foam tape.

To decorate the top of the right hand panel I cut a piece of the plain blue cardstock to 3" x 6" and used a Martha Stewart heart punch to punch along one of the 6" edges. I attached this piece to the right hand edge of the panel and attached the little strip of cardstock that was cut from the blue cardstock, by the punch, to the lefthand edge of the panel.

I used Paper Shapers "Folk Heart" punch in two sizes to punch two large and one small heart from white cardstock. I ran these through my Big Shot with a Sizzix embossing folder. I attached them to the panel with Aileen's Original Tacky Glue.

Next I matted my photo on some white cardstock that measures 3 3/4" x 5 1/2". This was then matted on top a piece of blue cardstock that measures 4" x 5 3/4". My photo assembly was then attached to the inside centre panel of the card.

The right and left inside side panels have a piece of Kaisercraft's patterned paper from their Wonderland 6 1/2" paper pad cut to 3 5/8" x 5 3/4" attached close to the fold line and a piece of 1/2" x 5 3/4" blue cardstock attached 1/8" from the outside edge of the card.

The left hand panel has another 3 hearts attached that were treated the same as the ones on the front of the right hand panel.

Die-Namics High Rise Numbers die was used to cut the "47" from black cardstock and Kaisercraft's Alphabet Upper Case dies were used to cut the word "years", also in black cardstock. These were attached to the card using the same glue that I had used to attach the hearts.

The panel on the right is where I wanted to write my personal message so I cut a piece of white cardstock to 2 1/2" x 3 3/4", matted that onto a piece of the blue cardstock that measures 2 5/8" x 3 7/8". This was then attached to the card.

We went out for a lovely lunch at the beach, although it was not really beach weather. We were inside the restaurant though so the weather did not make that much difference. A relaxing afternoon and evening with some crafting time, completed a great day.

Two Fabric Flower making Techniques

Hi there friends

Today I would like to share a video with you that shows how to create two different styles of fabric flowers.

You can use any fabric to create these flowers although I find that the softer the fabric the nicer the flower tends to sit.

I have used an assortment of tulles and meshes to make eleven flowers. These flowers are very quick to make and can be made in any colour to suit your project.

You do not need any special tools for this task. A pair of scissors, your fabrics, a needle and cotton and something for the centres of your flowers.

I have used a combination of brads and gems for my centres.

Hippie Love Layout

Good morning folks

Today I am sharing a layout I created as part of my Design Team work at Off The Rails Scrapbooking.

This is the Mood Board. Isn't it great. I love the hippie/flower power era. Why not pop over there and check it out. There are prizes to be won and the mood board is so bright and cheery.

The papers I have used for this layout are from Kaisercraft's Bombay Sunset range.They are so bright and colourful, just what I was looking for. I also used some plain magenta, yellow and orange cardstock.

The edges of all of the papers were distressed using my Prima distress tool and inked using my Versa Color black ink cube.

I trimmed my background patterned paper to 11 1/4" x 11 1/4" and cut the middle from the magenta cardstock leaving a 1 1/2" frame. The patterned paper was then attached to the frame using double sided tape. A piece of yellow cardstock that measures 7" x 1/4" was tucked under the patterned paper at the top left hand of the layout.                                 

To create the layers to go behind the photo I cut the turquoise paper 6 1/2" x 9" and tore along the bottom edges. A piece of the yellow cardstock was cut to 1/2" x 7 3/4" and the striped paper was cut to                      1 1/4" x 7 1/4".

I also cut some small pieces of the Orange (2 3/4" x 3/4"), Stripe (2 1/2" x 3/4") and Turquoise(2" x 3/4") papers to create a small cluster at the top left hand of the layout

The 7" x 5" photo was distressed and then matted on a piece of Orange cardstock that measures 5 1/4" x 7 1/4"

I took all of the pieces of patterned paper, photo and the layout base to the sewing machine and stitched a border around them all with white cotton.

All of the pieces were then attached to the layout base.

I cut the peace sign, Love and Flower Power elements from the mood board picture that I had printed out and gave them a coat of Glossy Accents. I wanted to use them to embellish my layout.

I used a paper Shaper punch called Retro Flowers to punch two sizes of the flowers. I scanned the flower into my Scan N Cut and resized it down so I could have some smaller ones as well. I cut an assortment of sizes and colours to create a banner/garland across the bottom of the photo. I also added a few to the hair section of the photo. 

I attached the peace sign with foam tape so it sat above the cluster at the top of the page. Using four strands of embroidery floss I stitched down from the cluster and glued a small flower at the end of each one to create a dream catcher.

I used a Poinsettia die to cut some leaves from the turquoise paper to add to the flower garland.

Once the flowers were glued in place I added some gems to the centres to add some contrast and bling.

I matted the Love word on white cardstock because it got lost in the background and then added it to the layout. I used foam tape behind the heart for a little added interest.

Lastly I used my fineline bottle that has watered down white acrylic paint in it to trace around the peace sign in the top cluster. This made a big difference.

Mystical Scrapbooking Cyber Crop for July

Hi everyone.

Today I am sharing my Design Team layout for the July Cyber Crop over at Mystical Scrapbooking.

As usual I have videoed the process and you can see the video here.

This is the inspiration photo:- (by sewyeah)

The inspiration I took from this picture was circles, stripes, flowers, red, white and grey.

This is my layout:-

I used 2 sheets of white cardstock, one being the base of the layout.

I cut 2 @ 1/2" x 12" pieces of Family & Co - Good Times paper and attached them to the top and the bottom of the layout base.

Next I cut 2 @ 1/2" x 12" pieces of Linen Cardstock in Kookaburra and attached to the layout base butted up to the Good Times paper.

The second piece of white cardstock was trimmed to 10 1/2" x 12",  distressed on the 12" edges and attached to the layout.

Next I used a 13@rts stencil and some Modelling Paste to create a few circles of paste to the page. While the paste was still wet I sprinkled some Artquest Mini Prills in Hot Mama over the paste and pressed them into the paste and set them aside to dry.

The layers behind the photos are:-

                    The plaid paper - Family & Co - Family Matters  is 7" x 4"

                    The red patterned paper Family & Co - Our House is 5" x 8"

                    The Kookaburra cardstock is 5 1/2" x 6 1/2"

                    The starry paper - Family & Co - Good Times is 3 1/4" x 7 1/4"

The bottom edge of each of these papers was then torn and all of the edges were inked with black ink.

The photo is 4" x 4 1/2" and is matted on white cardstock (4 1/4" x 4 3/4") and some textured red cardstock (4 1/2" x 5"). The photo has foam attached to the back to give it some height when it is attached to the layout.

I used some red cardstock to die cut three flowers, and the Kookaburra cardstock to die cut some leaves.

Using StazOn Jet Black Ink I stamped onto the flowers and leaves with a circle stamp.

After I assembled the flowers I attached a clear crystal to the centre of each one. These were then clustered with the die cut leaves and some Small white Gardenia flowers around the bottom left of the photo.

Fancy Pant - Family & Co Chipboard Stickers were used as part of the title. 

The "Love" part of the title is 13@rts chipboard that I have heat embossed with black embossing powder.

DT Layout for Mystical Scrapbooking July 2020 Challenge

Today I am sharing my first layout as a Design Team member over at Mystical Scrapbooking

The theme for July is "Christmas In July" and then there are two challenges within that theme.

The challenge I have created this layout for is to use Gold, Torn Paper Edges and Stars on your project. It does not have to be a Christmas project but I have taken the opportunity to document the new Christmas Tree I bought a couple of years ago

This is the layout

I started by cutting a triangle that is 9" high by 8" wide from white cardstock. This is the base for the Christmas tree embellishment.

I tore strips of Kaisercraft's Starry Night Magic that were approximately 1/2" wide and attached them to the cardstock triangle so they slightly overlapped. I used my finger nail to lift the torn edges of the paper to give the tree some nice texture. I then attached craft foam to the back of the triangle so that when I attached it to the layout it would have some dimension.

The white cardstock background was splattered with some watered down Gold acrylic paint.

I attached the Christmas Tree to the left hand edge of the layout so it had about 3" overhanging. I trimmed this off with my scissors and attached the off cut to the right hand edge of the layout.

For the base of my trees I used the "25" square from Kaisercraft's Starry Night Marvellous paper. I wrapped some blue ribbon around the panel before I attached it. I did not add ribbon to the tree base on the right.

To decorate my page I stamped the parcels from Kaisercraft's Christmas Edition and Merry Christmas stamp sets and also SEI's Christmas Mint stamp set. I used StazOn Jet Black ink to do my stamping because I wanted to colour the parcels.

The parcels were coloured using Docrafts Artiste Spritzing Ink in Gold and Tattered Angels Chalkboard spray in Teal High Heel. I applied the colour using my aqua brush. The touches of red and green were added using Dylusions Paint pen in Cherry Pie and a green felt tipped marker.

When I attached the parcels to the layout some were attached using glue and some were mounted using foam tape.

The gold stars were cut on my Scan N Cut from some gold sticker paper. I cut an assortment of sizes and scattered them randomly on the trees.

The photos were matted on an SEI paper called Glitzmas and the title was cut on my Scan N Cut from this same paper.

The photo on the left is attached to the layout using glue and the one on the right is attached using foam tape.

The title is attached with glue.

Let Your Heart Take Flight Art Journal page.

Good morning.

Today's post is about an art journal page I created. This page did not start out like this. I was three quarters of the way through the page and decided that I did not like it so gave it a couple of coats of Gesso and started again.

Once the Gesso had dried I used Kaisercraft's Tribal Collage stencil and Mont Marte Modelling paste to randomly place more texture on the background.

To colour the background I used three blue acrylic paints and a sponge to cover the top two thirds of the page and three green acrylic paints to cover the bottom area. I used a baby wipe to remove some of the paint from the raised areas on the page.

The paints I used are Duncan brand and are from my ceramic days over 25 years ago. The colours are True Blue, Summer Blue, Navy, Chiffon Green, Spring Green and Deep Turquoise.

Deep Red's Water Droplet Background stamp was used to stamp randomly over the background with Jet Black Archival Ink. I also used Donna Salazar's Twiggy stamp and Fern Green Archival ink to stamp over the green section of the page, coming up slightly into the blue area to give the look of grass.

My original page used houses as the focal point but I decided to go for something a bit smaller and found some images of bird houses on the internet at Dreamtime.com. I printed the images out, scanned them into my computer and resized them to the size I thought would be suitable. I printed a couple out, one larger than the other, onto white card stock and fussy cut them out.

To make the posts for the bird houses I stamped Kaisercraft's Woodgrain Stamp onto some cardstock using StazOn Jet Black ink

So if you have bird houses you have to have birds right. I stamped Dylusion's Put a Bird on It birds onto white cardstock and fussy cut them out too.

I used Derivan Matisse Matt Medium to collage all of the images on to the page.

Once the Matt Medium had dried I used my Twinkling H2O's to colour all of the images.

I have used Ginger Peach, Cinnamon Stick, Pink Azalea Ruby Red, Burnt Umber, Butterscothch, Majestic Blue, Mustard Green, Copper Penny, Snap Dragon, Irish Mist and Lemon Drop.

I used my alcohol marker to shade the images so they had a bit more depth to them.

A combination of my Zig fineline marker and The Art Studio's Permanent Marker, both in black, were used to outline and add detail all of the images.

I wanted to use my Faber Castell Big Brush markers to shade around the outside of the images so I gave my page a spray with Boyle's Clear Matt Spray so none of the colour would reactivate and smudge as I did the shading.

All of the shading was done with the Dark Indigo Big Brush Marker.

I keep some slightly watered down acrylic paint in both black and white in a fineliner bottle so I used both of these to add a border around the outside edge of the page.

The page was looking a bit too dark and I wanted to add a bit of a lift. I used a couple of paper punches and punched some flowers, in different sizes, from white cardstock.

These were attached to the page using Aileen's Original Tacky Glue. The yellow centres are Bright Yellow Scribbles, another product from my ceramic days, which is similar to Nuvo Drops.

To create the quote for the page I used a clear stamp that came with a magazine at some stage, stamped this onto some white cardstock with the black StazOn ink and cut it up to the sizes I wanted. The pieces were attache using Matt Medium. Once they were dry I used the black fineliner bottle to give each word a rough outline.

That completed this page. I have to say it did take me quite a while, but I am happy with it now.
