Re-purposed old book

I made this photo album for my friend for her birthday. It was a novel I bought at the second hand shop. I took the story out of the book and used the cover to hold the album.

I added 2 signatures of 10 pages each using Kaisercraft Lollipop for the plain pink and Creative Imaginations Double Vision for the patterned paper.

All of the photo mats have a strip of decorative paper along the top or bottom.

The patterned paper that I used throughout the book for decoration was Kaisercraft Be-you-tiful and Confetti. The white card is Kaisercraft also.

I have used Golden Glass Bead Gel through TCW Circle Explosion Stencil on the background and then decorated with hand made flowers. The name was cut using Kaisercraft Alphabet Uppercase Dies then coated with Dimensional Magic. A strip of Washi tape down the edge covers the join between the binding and the cover.

A tag has been heat embossed with gold and a paper flower to decorate the corner pocket.

I stamped the Prima Stamp on a piece of ivory cardstock and a piece of patterned paper. I cut the dress out of the patterned paper and stuck it on top of the ivory fussy cut piece. A row of lace has been attached at the hemline. The background is Texture paste through TCW Mini Labyrinth stencil, with gold glitter sprinkled on it while it was still wet and allowed to dry. The wooden dress form is Kaisercraft painted white.

A photo mat waterfall with a magnet to keep it in place on the left page and a bottom pocket on the right.

Lace, ribbon and wooden shape decorate the bottom pocket on the left page and a belly band and stop at the bottom for the right.

A fixed photo mat to take a 7" x 5" photo on the left and a fold out booklet on the right that will hold 8 photos.

The left page has a side flap which holds 2 photo mats. I have glued 2 pages together to make the right hand page then cut it on the diagonal to make a pocket, which holds a mat for a 7" x 5" photo. I have then attached some patterned paper to make another pocket to hold a photo mat.

The back of the pocket on the left and a corner pocket on the right.

There are 2 diagonal pockets on the left hand page and on the right a brad holds 3 photo mats in place which swivel to allow the photos to be viewed.

Two fixed photo mats here one for a 7" x 5" photo and one for a 6" x 4" photo.
The flower and pennants had been made using die cuts and the chipboard feather is heat embossed with gold. The word "Laugh" was created the same as the letters on the front of the book.

The page on the right is stuck to the page behind it to create a pocket to hold a 7" x 5" photo mat.

A loose mat for a 7" x 5" photo is tucked into the band at the bottom of the left hand page and the same size mat is tucked into a top corner pocket on the right.

A top pocket decorated with a die cut doily and a flower made using the Tim Holts Tattered Florals for the left page and another diagonally cut pocket for the left after sticking 2 pages together

A second pocket added to the left hand page and another fold out booklet tied up with lace for the right.

Two fixed mats. The page on the right has been stuck to the page behind it to create a pocket for another large mat.

A belly band with a wooden frame to stop the photos falling through on the left and a chipboard dress-form covered with patterned paper decorates the side flap on the right page.

Another set of 3 swivelling photo mats on the left page. The right page has been joined to the next page to make a pocket then cut on the diagonal. I have added a corner pocket to hold another photo mat.

On the back of the diagonal pocket I have made a pocket which holds a folded pice of patterned paper that will hold 3 photos with a journalling block on the front. The right hand page has another waterfall which is held closed with a magnet.

A fixed large photo mat on the left and a top corner pocket on the right which is the inside of the back cover.

It is quite a thick album and is really too thick for the book cover I used. In hindsight I would use only one signature in future or maybe 2 signatures of 6 pages instead of 10. I have attached ribbon under the decorative paper on the front and back covers so the album can be tied shut.
This album is free standing so is easy to display.

Christmas Cards

It has certainly been a busy card making week for me. I have made about 8 Christmas cards but for got to take photos of most of them before I posted them off.

Here are photos of the ones I did remember to photograph. I used the Kaisercraft Christmas Wishes 6.5" paper pad to make them all.

Birthday Cards

I have made three birthday cards this week. Busy birthday month for me.

This one is for a male friend who is turning 60.
I have cut the 60 on my Cricut using the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge. I have stamped and embossed the bird then coloured with Tim Holtz Distress Inks. The background patterned paper was free on a magazine, can't remember which one.

This one is for my Daughter. I have used some vintage lace, burlap and old buttons. the paper for the hearts was made with white cardstock, zig glue slick and superfine glitter then punched with a Paper Shapers heart punch

and this one is for another friend. Very simple design. I used some leftover glitter paper from the card above for the butterflies and embossed the three panels across the card with an embossing folder that came with a magazine - once again not sure which magazine.

Birthday Card

We are going to a friends 60th birthday celebration on Saturday night so I have made her a card. I got the instructions off the internet, a video by Collette Mitrega that you can see here.

I have used the same sheet of cardstock for the two layers and a old Papercraft Designer 6" paper pad for the decorative papers.

The sentiment is heat embossed with white embossing powder and the flowers are made using Leane Creative Multi Die flower 006.

I have left the centre panel clear so that we can write our greeting there.

Large Album using Kaisercraft Recipe Book

Hi there

I have been busy making this album for a friend to give to her friend as a birthday gift. The Kaisercraft Recipe album is 12" high by 9.5" wide, so quite large. The 5 internal pages are made of 1mm chipboard. The album will hold 56 photos in total.

My friend wanted to decorate the front cover herself. The large cake is stuck on but the other decorations are just sitting there for the photo and will be replaced by whatever she decides to put on it.

I have created this page for an 8" x 6" photo, maybe of the birthday girl or her favourite photo of the night.

This waterfall of photo mats will hold 9 photos. The 2 parcels at the top of the photo mats are stamped and heat embossed then fussy cut. All of the tabs throughout the album have been created using the McGill File Tab 3" punch.

A couple of pockets to hold some photo mats. Room for 10 more photos.

These two photo mats are attached to the page. A bit of stamping, heat embossing, fussy cutting and die cutting used here.

Another pocket to hold some photo mats. This one has a punched edge along the diagonally cut top edge. The hats and cupcakes are once again stamped, heat embossed and fussy cut. Room for 6 photos here.

A simple page for 2 photos. Die cut journal spot and the cup cakes have glossy accents added to the icing section

The ribbon on the photo mat section unties to allow the star to unfold. This will hold 9 photos.

Side pocket used here to hold the photo mats which will house 8 photos

This page has a belly band to hold the photos in place. The balloons are a purchased wooden embellishment.

Page 12 of the album (inside back cover) is a plain white page so people can leave a hand written message to the birthday girl.

The back cover is in a dark colour to take the wear and tear as best it can.

Kaisercraft Exchange

I am here today to share with you the items I am sending to the person I got in the Kaisercraft Exchange draw for September. We had until 30th September to send a parcel of some handmade paper crafts to the person we got in the draw. Today I posted my parcel to Ros Watson.
I made 4 cards for her and I hope she likes them and can use them.

This photo shows all four of them

A bit of a closer look

This is the female birthday card. I have used paper pleating with the floral paper, embossing on the top panel. the bottom background panel and the velum butterfly.

This christmas card has the centre section of the front panel cut away so that the christmas trees hold the top and bottom panels together. I saw this idea on Pinterest and just loved it. The top and bottom panels are covered with some wrapping mesh and the baubles on the trees are covered with Kindy Klitz.

This male birthday card includes some die cuts, washi tape, stamped and embossed shapes that have then been hand cut. There are lots of layers and some foam tape.

This child's birthday card is a shaker card. I have stamped and heat embossed the birthday sentiment on a piece of green cardstock to use as the back of the shaker section then filled the shaker with foil stars. The bird embellishment has been hand cut from the pattern paper

Grandparents Day Layout

 Hi there,

A quick post tonight to show you two layouts.

This first one I completed recently as I wanted to repeat the background I used on my Sassy layout using Mists and Gladwrap. Just love the effect this gives.

Each year Charli's school has Grand Parents and Special Friends Day when we get to go to her classroom and see what she has been doing at school. Each child shows their grandparents through their work and what they have on display around the classroom.

This layout I did some time ago but forgot to share it. On the background I have stamped and clear heat embossed a christmas tree and then sprayed with Glimmer Mist. The christmas tree on the side of the photo is a sticker that comes with stick on decorations. I have had it in my stash for so long and wanted to use it. A piece of glimmer mesh tied around the bottom of the photo gives a nice bit of dimention to an otherwise simple layout.

Stuck?! Sketches Challenge

I have created this layout using Stuck?! Sketches sketch that you can find here.

This is the sketch.

I created the background using Glimmermists Yellow Daisy, Starfish and Turquoise Blue and Glad-wrap. It has made the most beautiful gold shimmery effect which does not show up in the photos unfortunately. I then used TCW 6" x 6" stencilMini Labyrinth and Texture Paste in a rough circle around where I planned on putting the photo. I have used a Kaisercraft transparency Clock Face, which I cut to suit, behind my patterned papers. The patterned papers I have used are the Kaisercraft Confetti range. I have mounted my photo on a piece of cardboard for added dimension. The word Sassy is a rub-on from Kaisercraft. i have added some cotton threads in matching colours at the back of my title a few enamel dots and a little circular embellishment made with Sizzix dies and another rub-on

Why not pop over and have a look at the other entries or better still create a layout and enter the competition. Lots of great prizes to be won.

Birthday Card and Book

Hi there
It is a friend's birthday next week and i have been busy making her a card and a photo book.

This is the card and I have used the same range of papers on her card as I used in the book. The are a variety of Kaiser papers.

For the book I used an old novel that I bought from the Op Shop. I cut the story out of the book just using the cover. I wound Cloth Tape (Duct tape) around the spine of the book to give it some extra strength. I made up 3 signatures using 10 sheets of double sided patterned paper, giving each signature 20 pages. As it turned out this was too many for this sized book and I only had room to decorate the first and last signature otherwise the book would never have closed.

I covered the outside and inside of the cover with patterned paper leaving the tape on the spine exposed. Depending on the cover of the book you use you could leave this step out.
I then used fishing line to bind the signature into the cover

Then the task of decorating the pages. Some of the pages have pockets but most of them have tabs to slip the photo behind. I have used a sewing theme as my friend does her own dressmaking.

The cover

The page on the left has a little booklet on it that will hold 3 photos

I made this dress out of patterned paper using instructions I saw on youtube. Unfortunately I did not note the name of the person who posted the video.

The page on the left once again has a little booklet. This one holds 4 photos and there is a journalling card at the back of the booklet

Wow that is a very long post. If you have made it this far thank you.
