"Our Girls" Layout

Good morning,

Today's post shares a scrapbooking layout that I created using a 12" x 12" paper pad from DCWV called Navy Florals.

I have recorded the process and you can watch the video here if you would like to see this page come together.

I have chosen The background and four patterned papers from the pad.

To create the background for the layout I trimmed the dark grey paper to 11.5" x 11.5" and using 13@rts Dots and Numbers stencil I applied Mont Marte Modelling Paste through the stencil with my palette knife in random areas so that it would poke out from behind the patterned papers when they were attached to the page.

I then cut a 1" frame from a 12" x 12" piece of white cardstock and when the Modelling Paste was dry I used double sided tape to attach the dark grey paper to the white frame so an even amount of white showed around each edge of the grey.

Now it was time to cut my patterned papers:-
                                            patterned paper No 1. (light blue)  6" x 4"
                                            patterned paper No 2. (black floral) 8" x 6", 2.5" x 1" & 5" x 0.5"
                                            patterned paper No 3. (apricot) 9" x 2" & 2.25" x 0.75"
                                            patterned paper No 4. (pale pink) 2.5" x 1.75" - cut a fishtail 0.05" into
                                                                                                  one of the narrow sides.

All of the paper edges were then inked with Versa Color black ink.

Each of these papers are then matted onto white cardstock so there is a 1/16" white border around each edge of the papers. The edges were inked again.

The photo is matted the same way

All of the patterned papers are then attached to the background using double sided tape.

I used a Poinsettia die to cut enough layers to create three flower. I cut these in the pale blue, apricot and a plain pink cardstock from my scraps bin. The leaves were cut from a Kaisercraft Deck the Halls off cut.

To assemble the flowers I inked the edges with the same black ink pad and rolled the petals around a metal spike to give then dimension. The layers were attached in the middle with glue so the petals of each layer are staggered. A clear gem added to the middle completed each flower.

I used the same process to give the leaves some dimension.

Using dies I cut three hearts and a bow from the papers that are already on the page.

All of the embellishments were then attached to the page using either a hot glue gun or liquid glue.

The title uses Krafter's Korner Wooden Letter Set letters which are just over 1/2" tall. These are also attached using glue.

If you want to see how I made the flowers you can see them being made here.

Three More Velum Cards

Good morning,

A few weeks ago I made three cards using velum in different ways. I enjoyed making these cards so much that I decided to make three more using heat embossed velum flowers on each one.

You can watch them come together in this video

Two of the cards are white on white and one has some colour.

Let's start with the coloured one.

I am using a 5 1/8" square card base for this card. I cut a piece of yellow cardstock 4 7/8" square and a piece of white cardstock 4 5/8" square. I embossed the white piece with a damask style Cuttlebug embossing folder, inked the edges of the yellow and the white cardstock with black Versa Color ink and attached them to the card base.

Using Heartfelt Creations Delicate Asters stamp set I stamped one large and two of each of the other flowers and 3 of the leaves onto iridescent  velum. I added yellow embossing powder to the flowers and a pale green embossing powder to the leaves. I bought the embossing powders many years ago in a set that had about 10 - 12 small containers of assorted colours of embossing powder.

All of the embossed items were then fussy cut and the flowers were layered onto each other and attached with a dot of glue in the centre. A yellow gem was added to complete the flowers.

The flowers and leaves were then attached to the front of the card using glue once again, making sure that the glue was in a place that would not be seen once everything was in place.

To create the sentiment I used a stamp from the Hero Arts set called Small Greetings. I stamped this onto a piece of white cardstock using StazOn Jet Black ink. Once I had trimmed the cardstock to the size I wanted, I matted the greeting on some of the yellow cardstock I had used on the card and attached that to the front of the card so the bottom flower slightly overlapped it.

The second card is one of the white on white cards.

I cut this card base so I would have a square card measuring 5 1/4".

I used a die to cut the background embellishment from the same white cardstock that I had used to create the card base.

A piece of the same cardstock was also cut to 5 1/4" x 1 1/4". I wrapped some seam binding around this piece and tied a bow in the front. I used glue to adhere the seam binding to the cardstock strip and the strip to the card base.

To create the flowers I used an assortment of flower stamps from my stash. The stamps are, Embossing Arts Co 192-GB Giant Flowers, Annaleey Crafts Flower Square and Artee Stamps Cute Daisy. I stamped these onto the same velum that I used in the previous card, heat embossed them and then fussy cut them out. I used Wow Opaque Bright White Super Fine embossing powder on these flowers. I layered the flowers, off setting the petals from each other. A clear gem was added to the centres of the flowers to finish.

I used glue once again to add these to the front of the card.

The greeting was stamped on the same velum that the flowers are made from, using StazOn Jet Black ink. I think the stamp must have come on a magazine or something because I can not remember buying it.

I trimmed the greeting down to size and used glue behind the black lettering to attach it to the card.

The last card for today is also a white on white card.

The card base for this card is 5 1/8" square.

I heat embossed a piece of white cardstock with the same Wow white embossing powder and a stamp from a PaperArtsy stamp set. I am going to use this as my base layer on the front of my card so I trimmed it down to 4 7/8" square. I also used a piece of this cardstock that measures 4 7/8" x 1 3/4" across the front of the card. I used foam tape to attach this piece about 1" up from the bottom of the card.

Using the second flower and the two leaves from the stamp set I heat embossed 8 flowers and 4 leaves on some velum that had a white streak pattern through it. These were then fussy cut.

To add some dimension to my flowers I cut the spikey part of three of the flowers out and attached them on top of three flowers, creasing the petals up slightly so they did not sit flat.

I also added a clear gem to these three flowers

Once I was happy with the positioning of the flowers and leaves I used glue to attach them to the card front on top of the raised strip of embossed cardstock.

The greeting was another of the stamps in the Hero Arts Small Greetings stamp set. I stamped it on a scrap of the embossed cardstock that I used as the background. Cut it down to size and used foam tape to attach it to the card.

There Are Always Flowers Art Journal Page

Good morning.

It is Wednesday and that means a new Blog post. Today I am sharing an art journal page with you.

This page is in my self made ring bound journal. I have cut watercolour paper to 8.75" x 8.25", rounded the corners and punched four hole in one of the shorter edges 1/2" in from the edge.

The page has had a coat of Gesso to create a nice surface to take the products that will be used. I do this in advance so it is dry when I come to use it. It is not necessary to Gesso every page but I do prefer using Gessoed pages.

I recorded the process while I was making this page and you can see the video on my YouTube channel here.

To colour the background I have used Silks. I have had these for many years and am not sure if they are still around. They are an acrylic glaze and have a beautiful sheen to them.

The colours I have used are Sunflower, Raspberry Wine and Snap Dragon. I started using a brush to apply the colour then used my finger to apply more colour and blend the colours together.

When the silks were dry I used StazOn Jet Black ink and Kazzaz's Life's Moments Background stamp to add a little more detail to the background.

This was followed by some white splatters using 13@rts Ayeeda Ink in White which I watered down and added with my fan brush.

I used Heartfelt Creations Daisy Patch Flowers stamp to create a mask for each size of the flowers before stamping the flowers onto the page using StazOn Jet Black ink and the masks so it looked like some of the flowers were in the background.

Using an assortment of different sized soft brushes I added a coat of Gesso to the whole background so only the flowers were left in full colour. The Gesso toned down the background but allowed some of the colour to show through. It also took away the sheen leaving the background flat and the flowers with the lovely sheen.

I used a mixture of an Ultra Fine black Sharpie permanent marker and an Art Studio permanent black marker 0.4mm in black to outline and detail all of the flowers.

The centres of each of the flowers are a mixture of the white 13@rts Ayeeda Ink, the Sunflower Silks and black acrylic paint.

I have a fineliner bottle that I keep watered down black acrylic paint in and I used that to put a scribbly black boarder around the page.

The quote on the page is a print from the internet that I have cut into strips and attached to the page using Mat Gel Medium. I used my black acrylic bottle to put a scribbly boarded around the quote to tie it into the page.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my page today, don't forget to check out the video here.

Messing About with Poppy Layout

Good morning.

Today I am sharing a layout I have created that uses 3 photos. I have trimmed the photos down so they are 3 1/4" high and differing widths.

I have a video showing the full process for creating this layout. You will find it here.

I have used three papers from my stash that are in the blue/turquoise range. I have paired these with both plain black and white cardstock.

I have used my Scan N Cut to cut a floral circle that is 6" in diameter. This was a free cut file I got from the internet, but unfortunately I have not noted where it came from.

To add some texture to the background I put Colour Blast Colour Paste (colour Envy) through a TCW stencil (Tile Texture). Then I added some circles using a clear stamp and Jet Black StazOn ink. Some splatters with Glimmermist (Starfish) added a little pink to finish the background.

From the first patterned paper (stripes) I cut 3 pieces, 1 @ 1" x 5 1/4", 1 @ 1 1/4" x 11" and 1 @ 1"
x 9 1/2".

From the second piece of patterned paper I cut three pieces, 1 @ 3/4" x 4", 1 @ 1 1/2" x 11 1/2" and 1 @ 3/4" x 8".

I tore two strips from the Coordinations cardstock for the top and the bottom of the layout.

I used some pink paper to back the open leaves of the cut file. I also cut 3 pieces of this paper, 1@ 1" x 9", 1 @ 1" x 5" and 1 @ 1" x 10". I used a punch to punch along one of the long edges of each of these strips.

All of these papers had their edges inked with black ink.

The strips of paper and the cut file were then added to the background as shown in the photo.

The photos were mounted on foam and attached on top of the centre layers of patterned papers.

The "Messing about" section of the title was cut on my Scan N Cut from black cardstock.
The "with Poppy" section was printed on white cardstock, cut into a fishtail banner and attached to the layout using foam to give it added dimension.

I felt that the background was too overpowering at this stage and decided to give it a coat of Gesso to push it back a little.

I used a punch to punch the hearts and tiny flowers from the same cardstocks that I had previously used on the layout to embellish the page.

To finish the page I applied a thick layer of Glossy Accents to the black area of the cut file and to the "Messing about" part of the title. This dries clear a gives the black cardstock a beautiful gloss.
